In the event of a Canada Post strike, outgoing mail will be held by IRCC until Canada Post resumes mail services in all instances where immediate communication is not urgent. Clients who wish to receive their documentation prior to the resumption of service by Canada Post but whose requests are not urgent may provide prepaid envelopes from an alternate courier supplier.
Any foreign passports held by IRCC on the day of a Canada Post strike will be returned by courier by IRCC.
Similarly, all non-urgent Permanent Resident (PR) cards will be held and “warehoused” by the contractor. If such a strike becomes protracted, alternative means will be used to send the PR cards to the clients.
Urgent PR cards will be boxed and shipped to local IRCC offices for distribution (e.g. the local offices will contact clients and request them to come to the office to get their PR cards).
