If the recent U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) proposal is enacted, travellers seeking visa waiver entry to the U.S. will be asked to list their social media profiles for scrutiny.
The proposal is an update to applications forms which would ask visitors to identify which social networks they use and their “social media identifier” (eg. a Twitter username).
Both Form I-94W and Esta applications would be affected by these changes.
According to the DHS these questions would be listed as “optional”.
Feedback from the public is being solicited by mail for 60 days before the Customs and Border Protection Agency (part of the Department of Homeland Security) considers the proposal further. Feedback can be mailed to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection at its Washington Office.
